Empuriabrava Residential Marina
Empuriabrava residential marina, is one of the most
original tourist enclaves in the Mediterranean, and was established
in 1967. It is structured around a grid-shaped network of navigable
canals totaling some twenty miles in length, which criss-cross through
it. One of Empuriabrava's great attractions is the conveniences offered
by the housing there.
Most of the houses have a garden, garage and private access to the
canals, so owners can moor their boats in the back yard, so to speak.
It has now become consolidated as a town in its own right, with all
the services and amenities of an international urban centre. It has
its own airfield and 5,000 moorings, making Empuriabrava the biggest
residential marina in the world.
The shopping sector is situated in the wide avenue Caries Fages de
Climent, bordered by arcades, and at the crossroads of this with the
other large avenue - Joan Caries I, and the avenue d'Europa.
There is also a shopping area in the Alberes sector.
The eastern section of the avenue, Carles Fages de Climent, leads down to the port, where more shops are to be found, and at the centre, the Nautical Club with its slender tower overlooking the whole area.
On the opposite side of this same avenue is where "it's at" in terms of night life in Empuriabrava (music bars, terraces, discotheques, etc.).
During the year there arc many different events: Weekly street markets, sports (regattas, free-fall exhibitions, etc.), cultural events (painting and photography exhibitions) and popular events (traditional Sardana dancing, Havanera songs, sardine barbecues, etc.).
EMPURIABRAVA SPORTS FACILITIES
Aeronautical sports: the Empuriabrava aerodrome is home to the Costa Brava Parachuting Centre, considered to be one of the world's leading centres.
There is also a school for would-be pilots of micro-light and light aircraft, which offers flights over the region.
All sports to do with the sea: sailing, wind-surfing, water-skiing, deep-sea fishing, jet skis, parasailing and scuba diving (there are two diving schools here).
Tennis: two tennis clubs, with hard and clay courts. Horse-riding: schools for beginners and for advanced riders, offering the full range of riding activities, including hacking across the 'Aiguamolls de l'Emporda".
Many other sports including basketball, football, karting, bowling, cross-country cycling, etc.
One of the largest and most reputable golf courses in Europe is situated just five minutes away from Castello d'Empuries.
